How to prepare for your role as a Coastrek Volunteer
The best way to prepare for your role is to check out this
website and be familiar with: the rules
and guidelines and
the Event Day
page for trekkers.
On Event Day you will also have access to your Team Leader's
Operations Manual which you can refer to while on your shift.
You have been assigned to a team leader who will brief you on
arrival on Event Day, support you during your shift and provide
basic food and drink. Please report in for the start of your
shift with the Team Leader, and let them know when you are leaving
and complete the sign in/out sheet.. Please be open and
prepared to take directions from your team leader and be proactive
in asking what else needs to be done.
Unforeseen changes are inevitable with such an event so we
really appreciate your flexibility to move into other positions, if
necessary, working as a team and making sure that you are
contactable at all times.
Things you will need with you on Event Day:
1. Mobile phone: Please make
sure you bring a fully charged mobile phone so you can be contacted
by your Team Leader or in case of emergency.
2. Personal Items: Please bring anything for
your comfort eg: cushion, fold out chair for Road Marshal
positions, a book or games for quiet periods, thermos and specific
dietary needs.
3. Personal equipment and clothing: You will
receive a complimentary Sydney Coastrek Volunteer T-shirt on
arrival but to ensure you are ready for all possible weather
conditions, please bring a:
- warm
layer
-
raincoat
-
hat
-
sunscreen
- torch
(if you are rostered at night- preferably a head
torch)
The infrastructure will include marquees and seating but please
do not bring valuables as storage will not be secure.
4. Please Please…… Remember to arrive
on time!
The Sydney Coastrek Volunteer team are relying on you to be
prepared and be on time. We cannot provide support to our
2000 trekkers without you.
Every volunteer position is vital to the overall success of the
event, however we understand life takes over at times, so if you do
need to pull out for any reason please let your Team Leader know as
soon as possible so we can endeavour to find a replacement for your
shift.
5. Transport on the day
It is vital that you arrange your own transport to and from your
shift location. You can use: whereis.com to work out the
best way there and http://www.131500.com.au/plan-your-trip
for public transport options. Certain checkpoints such as Palm
Beach and Balmoral will be extremely busy with competitors and
supporters, so you may need to research alternate parking areas
nearby.
6. Most importantly, have fun!
We want all our volunteers to have a fantastic experience; so
soak up some Event Day atmosphere, say hi to the other volunteers
and remember to enjoy yourselves. Please cheer on and
encourage the trekkers whenever you can as your support can make
all the difference to a trekking team's Sydney Coastrek
experience.
We have no doubt you will have a fun and rewarding experiencing.
Your generosity of spirit will make a huge difference and you will
be helping The Fred Hollows foundation to restore sight and improve
Indigenous health.
Thank you for your time and energy, we look forward to seeing
you all there!
