We’re back walking!!

COVID has made the need even greater to support people who are feeling the isolation and anxiety of this change for all of us.
So the 30km walk is still on! Please help us to raise funds to support Beyond Blue.
All donations help Beyond Blue give a hand up to people finding it really tough to see hope.
Thank you!!

You can donate here if you like (any amount, any time) to support those in need. Thanks for your generosity.

Lockdown

Yes there is fear.

Yes there is isolation.

Yes there is panic buying.

Yes there is sickness.

Yes there is even death.

But,

They say that in Wuhan after so many years of noise

You can hear the birds again.

They say that after just a few weeks of quiet

The sky is no longer thick with fumes

But blue and grey and clear.

They say that in the streets of Assissi

People are singing to each other

across the empty squares,

keeping their windows open

so that those who are alone

may hear the sounds of family around them.

They say that a hotel in the West of Ireland

is offering free meals and delivery to the housebound.

Today a young woman I know

is busy spreading fliers with her number

through the neighbourhood

So that the elders may have someone to call on.

Today Churches, Synagogues, Mosques and Temples

are preparing to welcome

and shelter the homeless, the sick, the weary

All over the world people are looking at their neighbours in a new way

All over the work peple are waking up to a new reality

To how big we really are.

To how little control we really have.

To what really matters.

To Love.

So we pray and remember that

Yes there is fear.

But there does not have to be hate.

Yes there is isolation.

But there does not have to be loneliness.

Yes there is panic buying.

But there does not have to be meanness.

Yes there is sickness

But there does not have to be disease for the soul

Yes there is even death.

But there can always be a rebirth of love.

Wake to the chioices you make as to how to live now.

Today, breathe.

Listen, behind the factory noises of your panic

The birds are singing again

The sky is clearing

Spring is coming,

And we are always emcompassed by Love.

Open the windows of your soul

And though you may not be able to touch across the empty square,

Sing.

#ReasonsToStayAlive

Suicide claims more lives each year than car accidents.

Matt Haig was just 24 when he was struck by a crippling depression, which led him to consider suicide. Matt explains that it wasn't that he wanted to die, but he could hardly bear the pain and terror he was experiencing. Matt got help and is now an acclaimed novelist. You can listen to his podcast here:

We're all part of a community who can prevent someone dying by suicide. Staying connected and checking in with people around you builds resilience for all of us.

If you or someone needs help, don't be too shame to contact someone who can help.

"Don’t tell me what other people have told you about yourself, tell me about you."

People who live with mental illness are some of the bravest people I have met. They often face a society that doesn't understand them, when what they need most, is for people to be with them as they find their way.

At 17 Eleanor Longden was diagnosed with schizophrenia. After a long battle with the voices in her head Dr Eleanor Langdon now has a PhD, manages a research unit and chairs reference committees. Eleanor shares her story in this TED Talk.

Be brave, be connected.

In this animation (follow the link below), Dr Brene Brown reminds us how we can create a genuine empathic connection when we are brave, and in touch with our own fragilities.

On Friday 4 September 2020, I'll be walking in the Sydney Coastrek 2020 - 30km event with 3 of my lovely sisters. The walk is about raising awareness of mental health and the collective impact is has on us, and our community.

For me its about the time I get to spend with 3 of my beautiful sisters as we train up for the event. Just hanging out with them is doing me goodsmile.

Check out my gallery. I've added some pics!

We're also fundraising for Beyond Blue who provide information and support to help people achieve thier best possible mental health. Over 192,000 people used their service last year. (As a comparison, the ANZ Stadium capacity is 82,500. That's a lot of people!)

You can donate here if you like (any amount, any time) to support those in need. Thanks for your generosity.
