Sydney Coastrek 2020 - 60km

I’m taking on Sydney Coastrek!

On Friday 27 March, I'll be taking part in Sydney Coastrek, the ultimate team trekking and fundraising challenge, proudly supporting Beyond Blue.

Did you know that three million people in Australia are living with anxiety and depression?

Every donation helps and makes a significant impact to mental health and wellbeing in Australia, so thank you for your generosity.

My Story

Why I'm walking 60km in one day

My sister Mel asked me if I'd join her team. It's a cause she is very passionate about supporting, and one which she knows all too well.
Mel is not just my awesome big sister, she continues to have an awesome career - in which she keeps kicking goals - this year, under her leadership as Head of Consumer Marketing - CMO, Optus has been rated as Australia's strongest brand. She is also an amazing Mum to Eleanor and is married to my legend of a brother-in-law, Rich.
Mel also suffers from depression - and on RUOK day in 2018, bravely revealed, to her very large LinkedIn network, that she has done so for a long time - but had never felt comfortable sharing it publicly. On RUOK day last year, Mel was interviewed by Mia Freedman on No Filter. It's a great podcast that you can listen to here:  No Filter - Melissa Hopkins was Tired of Hiding
Even though Mel has suffered from depression for 20 years, It's only in the past few years that my awareness and understanding of depression and mental health - and the daily and long-term challenges faced by those that suffer it has really grown. When someone you love is suffering from depression, it's really hard to know what's the right thing to do or say. Or to really understand what they are going through. That's why I'm so keen to support BeyondBlue. Last year they responded to over 200,000 contacts through their support centre, an operation that relies on fundraising to exist.
For those who know me, it will come as no surprise at all that Mel and my fellow Coastrek team mates have nicknamed me Seageant Major - well, someone has to make sure we keep the pace up on our training walks laughing
Thank you so much to those of you who have already sponsored me.
