Honey Brings in Some Money....
In addition to being a keen hiker I am also an amateur beekeeper.
Following an extraction from my hive last week I advertised jars of my honey for sale to our local Wild Women facebook group and sold six jars (thanks Wild Women Newcastle!), with all of the proceeds going to my fundraising effort. I also got some training for Coastrek in while on a lovely hike with these ladies.
I received a donation of cans and bottles from from a member of this group (thank you Fran!) and so I am having a successful fundraising week.
My target stands at $410.50 to raise with 22 weeks to go. This equates to 186 cans and bottles to collect and deposit per week.
Yay I am on track!
Raising Funds for Beyond Blue One Can at a Time
I am so excited to be party of this great team of chicks hiking and raising funds for such a great cause, Beyond Blue!
This is an adventure of firsts for me... although a seasoned hiker I have never participated in Coastrek (though I have wanted to for some time). It will also be the first time I have hiked in a team with women that I do not know well...the lovely Lisa and Leanne (whom I met for the first time on signing up to the challenge), and also the fabulous Michelle B (who I know a little from a running community that we are both part of). I feel very grateful to be able to be part of Coastrek and this awesome team, Newie Blister Sisters.
I will be earning my spot on the team by fundraising one can at a time...yes, I aim to raise $500 by collecting used cans and bottles and using the return and earn money to donate to Beyond Blue. So far I have collected, deposited and donated the proceeds from 115 cans and bottles, which means I have 4,885 cans and bottles to go to reach my target.
This is not as daunting as it sounds. With 23 weeks to go I need to find 213 cans or bottles per week. As I run, cycle, walk or hike most days (and collect as I go) this is an achievable goal. But, I am also happy to accept donations of cans and bottles to help reach my target!
I also have some other quirky fundraising ideas in mind, so stay posted!
