Adelaide Coastrek 30km

I’m taking on Adelaide Coastrek!

On Friday 20 September, I'll be taking part in Adelaide Coastrek, the ultimate team trekking and fundraising challenge, proudly supporting Beyond Blue.

Did you know that three million people in Australia are living with anxiety and depression?

Every donation helps and makes a significant impact to mental health and wellbeing in Australia, so thank you for your generosity.

My Story

Life can be complicated

It is becoming more and more apparent every day, that something is happening in our society that is both positive and scary at the same time. It is fantastic that mental health is recognised and openly discussed by people in all walks of life; what is infinitely scary, is the prevalence and frequency of the occurrence of mental health issues.

My particular and very personal interest in mental health has stemmed from an event that caused significant trauma in the lives of my loved ones. 9 April 2014 (I'll never forget that date). The repercussions to myself and family from this one event have been significant.

We are fortunate that we are educated, informed and able to access available resources, whether they be public or private, to assist us through this trauma. The mental health concerns resulting from this event have been acute as well as chronic and have ranged from panic attacks to anxiety to bouts of depression and have been for both childern and adults. We are one family, who has experienced one signifcant trauma, in a nation of approximately 25 million people.

Coastrek Adelaide has a goal of $1.2 million for Beyond Blue. I'm part of a team of women who offer each other that first line of defense against the battle for mental health. We are walking 30km in the beautiful Fleurieu Peninsula on 20 September. There will be much laughter and conversation (as well as groaning I am sure) but above all we will be supporting one another and raising money for a fabulous and much needed organisation.

Life can be complicated.
