I’m taking on Adelaide Coastrek!

On Friday 20 September, I'll be taking part in Adelaide Coastrek, the ultimate team trekking and fundraising challenge, proudly supporting Beyond Blue.

Did you know that three million people in Australia are living with anxiety and depression?

Every donation helps and makes a significant impact to mental health and wellbeing in Australia, so thank you for your generosity.

My Story

At the finishing line

A great feeling crossing the finishing line and receiving our medals tongue-outlaughing

Fitbit map of our completed Trek

Here's the proof of our impressive 30k Trek. Beautiful coastrek all the way, long sandy beaches and gorgeous scenery from Granite Island as we crossed the causeway.

Our T-shirts in memory of Aurora

My T-shirt design for Aurora, a heart of violet's – one of Aurora's middle names 'Violet' – Violet Femmes team name.

We did it!

Great day! Completed 30k in 6 hours 54 mins. Loved every minute. The weather was perfect, rain arrived just as we finished.

Solo walking

We can't always get together as a team for training and so walking in silence for a couple of hours in amongst nature can be a good thing to clear the mind, like my yoga meditation does.cool

Our Team T-shirt Design

Pleased with my t-shirt design which is a tribute to my daughter Aurora who passed away aged 18, 4 years ago. One of her middle names is Violet so I've taken my FB Profile Image I created for her – a heart of violets. I took up walking when I lost Aurora so she is the reason I am doing this Trek and to support Beyond Blue, since I now advocate for better youth mental health. I'll be thinking of her as I cross that finish line.

Some coastal scenery

From the Hills to the Coastline – enjoying getting out and about taking on new challenges. Where to next with 4 weeks to go . . .

20km walk along the coastline

It was a freezing cold, wet, windy day, but we braved it on Sunday – setting off at 9.30am and it was the first time as a full team. Our goal was 20km and we achieved it even though we got soaked and sand blasted. We finished off the afternoon at the Seacliff Hotel celebrating with bubbles and hot wedges after 4 hours walking, before returning to the hills which was covered in hail stones, looking like snow. We figured the weather shouldn't be this bad on the actual event day – so feeling confident smile

Training session – Linear Park Trail to Henley Beach

Past the Brewery on our way to Henley Beach, feeling good in perfect weather until we hit the wall around the 24k mark on the way back – slowed down tongue-out

Breaking in the new treking shoes. We had a bumper training walk on Saturday, along the Linear Park trail – from Melbourne Street to Henley Beach and back again. At about 20k a couple blisters needed attention – not too bad yell

Walking alongside nature at Belair National Park

Could not have asked for a better day's weather on Saturday for our training session. My team mate Gillian and I soon warmed up after a couple of K's and had many beautiful nature spots like this one to take in. I hope our Trek weather will be as good as this but prepared for anything.

Belair National Park – Adventure Loop Trail Walk 13k

Stepping up the K's with 8 weeks to go to the big Trek. Team mate Gillian and I walked 13.38k in 2:49 mins. Perfect weather, beautiful nature environment.

Training at night

When you're time poor, working through the week and you need to get moving after sitting at a computer all day – you fit a quick 3-4k walk in around the block in the evening. I pass the Bridgewater Inn 3 times with my laps – tempting!

Aurora's 4th Anniversary Walk

On July 1st, in memory of Aurora I walked a solo 15k 'Adventure Loop Trail' at Belair National Park, over 2hrs 51 mins. Being amongst nature, exercising and solitude helped me through this day. My total km for the day ended up being 17.68, my fitbit was very pleased with me.

Today's solo 9k walk

Perfect day for walking, no rain or wind with a cool temperature allowing for warming up. Felt like I could have walked forever. Came across two horses on a property that was the former family home of Alexander Downer.

Fairy Village

Surprising find on my walk last week-end – a Fairy Village in the woods

Resumed yoga classes on Wednesday night after a 2 week break. Yoga will be an important part of training to keep flexible and focused with meditation. Will be dedicating any personal mantras to my goals and completing the Trek! Om, Om, Om

Chocolate nearly finished

I’m nearly at the end of my Easter and Mother’s Day chocolate so going to reduce my sugar intake further to start eating healthier towards my training. 🍭🍫❎   🌶 🍅 ✅

Weekend walks

Managed two 3k walks this weekend in amongst a busy schedule - one in the dark, rain,☂️ thunder and lightning 🌩⚡️ - dodging puddles and slippery rocks. Feet and sneakers saturated💦 - note to self to get new walking shoes soon.🤔

Zumba Class

My team member Gillian and I kick started our fitness training at Zumba last night 👯‍♀️
