I’m taking on Adelaide Coastrek!
On Friday 20 September, I'll be taking part in Adelaide Coastrek, the ultimate team trekking and fundraising challenge, proudly supporting Beyond Blue.
Did you know that three million people in Australia are living with anxiety and depression?
I'll be training solo as my team-mates live 700km away, so your donations will be a huge motivating factor to get me off my bum in the middle of winter.
Every donation helps and makes a significant impact to mental health and wellbeing in Australia, so thank you for your generosity.

We did it!
If it wasn't for all the support and donations we received, I may not have finished. Even the spectacular scenery and dolphins weren't motivation enough. I hit delirium, my hips seized up, my feet were sore... and continue to be. But we did it. Xx
Again, I have been blown away by the generosity of all our sponsors, and am so appreciative of your support. Sincerely, thank you, I clearly couldn't do it without you.
Fundraising for Beyond Blue isn't the only challenge for this walk, it's the training as well. This week with 8 weeks to go, better late than never, my amazing husband is going the join me for an 18km stroll along our local walking trail, the Parnkalla trail. I'll let you know how we go on Saturday. Wish us luck xx
Finding training buddies...
Part of the reason I thought it might be great to get together with my lady mates to do Coastrek is because I live in Port Lincoln... and they're all still in Adelaide. I was chuffed that they were so enthusiastic about joining me on this endeavour, but reality set in when I realised I needed to find my own motivation to train. I see them all chatting about meeting up for training walks/bike rides/Mt Lofty/wine, and have found myself hoping to find someone nearby to train with.
Enter Parkrun. It's only 5km but it's once a week. It makes me get up, and push myself because I'm crazy competitive. I've even taken to some light competition with student who does it... she doesn't know that though... Parkrun is held every Saturday all over the world and is a fantastic community of super supportive, active, motivated, people who want everyone else to just do their best.
So for the time being, they are my training tribe. This week I beat my PB, which let's be honest was not all that great. That's okay, I'll be back next week and will push myself harder and eventually I'll run the whole way.
You are all amazing!
When I 'went live' and sent out the link to raise funds, I was petrified. For starters, I was posting on social media and I rarely do that, but more so I was worried that I'd really struggle to get the dollars I needed. In the end it's been such an exciting week, actually, only 5 days, with an email alert every time someone donates. And those alerts have been rolling...
To everyone who has donated to support me and my team raise funds for Beyond Blue - you are amazing. So amazing in fact that I've upped my goal. Please share the link, remember that even $5 makes a difference. Talk about the reason Beyond Blue is so important in the Australian health care landscape, and give yourselves a little hug like I wish I could!
Love you legends and thank you for all you support and kind words
Let's do this!I'm a high school counsellor in a regional community and feel strongly that we need to speak more openly about mental health. I see this every day with the students and families I work with. Earlier this year I faced my own mental health crisis and experience the isolation and limited resources available to my community first hand. I was lucky, I have a supportive husband, workplace, and GP. I was able to find a visiting psychologist. Not everyone has this network available, and Beyond Blue work hard to help bridge the gap with information, support, and acceptance of the different journies we take. To address the social isolation I felt, I figured why not get together with my lady mates to overcommit to do 30km trek and strengthen our connection as well as our bodies. Go on, sponsor me, and support the important work Beyond Blue do.
Thank you to my Sponsors
