SYDNEY'S EASTERN BEACHES ROUTE MAP

ROUTE HIGHLIGHTS

Explore Sydney’s spectacular coastline and challenge yourself to a 20km, 30km or 50km hiking adventure with Coastrek – the longer you hike, the more you’ll see!

There are few major cities in the world where access to nature is so close to the CBD – and Sydney is one of them.  We’ve uncovered the hidden gems around Sydney’s foreshore and curated a route combining picturesque harbourside hiking trails through national parks, secret beaches and coves, and bushwalking tracks that hug the coastline, with the city’s iconic landmarks all part of the mix.

All three Coastrek Start Lines – Middle Head (Mosman) 50km, Rushcutters Bay 30km, Vaucluse 20km – and the Finish Line in Coogee are within 45 minutes of Sydney’s CBD – so you get to see all those world famous views and landmarks – but still feel well and truly off-grid!

TERRIFIC 20KM

The 20km route will start at Vaucluse, setting off at 11am and winding around to Parsley Bay.  A picturesque highlight of the route is crossing the Parsley Bay Suspension Bridge over the sparkling bay below – you’ll think you’re on the Isle of Capri!

Continue on with a stunning loop around South Head and historic Hornby Lighthouse to Watsons Bay, where you’ll join the Coastal Cliff Walk, looking out over wild and rugged rocky coastline with some of the most challenging inclines on the route.

From the Dover Heights Luv Stop, most of the terrain is footpath or coastal trail with just a touch of sand at Bondi, Tamarama, Bronte and Clovelly – the crème de la crème of Sydney’s east coast beaches!

With a final challenging push around Gordon’s Bay it’s all down hill into the Coogee Finish Line.  You did it!

THRIlling 30km

The 30km route starts at Rushcutters Bay Park, setting off at sunrise.  You’ll have around 2km of suburban paths to walk as you make your way through Darling Point, Double Bay and Rose Bay (a chance to check out the million-dollar real estate!). You’ll then link up with the famous Hermitage Foreshore walk – with small remote harbourside beaches along the trail including Hermit Beach and Milk Beach - through to Nielsen Park and the Vaucluse Luv Stop. After Vaucluse, the route winds around to Parsley Bay.  A picturesque highlight of the route is crossing the Parsley Bay Suspension Bridge over the sparkling bay below – you’ll think you’re on the Isle of Capri!

FABULOUS 50km

The intrepid 50km trekkers set off at dawn from Middle Head, Mosman, and head south on the newly opened track linking Middle Head and Georges Head.  As the sun rises over Sydney, continue along a combination of bushwalking trails, including some stairs, with a low to medium incline reaching Bradleys Head.  You’ll tick off the first Sydney icon here as you pass Taronga Zoo and continue on undulating paved and natural pathways, hugging the coastline around Cremorne Point and on to the North Sydney Luv Stop to recharge.

Leaving North Sydney, make your way up and onto the Sydney Harbour Bridge, reaching The Rocks precinct at the other end - the historic heart of Sydney. Continue around the Sydney Opera House and Bennelong Point and follow the water’s edge with Sydney Harbour on your left and the beauty of the Royal Botanic Gardens on your right.   Rounding Mrs. Macquarie's Chair, be sure to look back see what you’ve achieved with uninterrupted views across the harbour to the headlands where you started this morning.

Continue through Sydney’s heritage neighbourhoods, Woolloomooloo and Elizabeth Bay on suburban street paths before reaching Rushcutters Bay for a well-earned rest at the Luv Stop

As 50km trekkers, only you get to experience this morning’s hike between Middle Head and Rushcutters Bay, seeing Sydney in all its glory  – well done!
