The finer details...
Starting only 45 minutes from Sydney’s CBD, the Northern Beaches route takes the hustle and bustle out of Sydney and leaves you with a picturesque seaside paradise. Visit the Northern Beaches for Event Day or make it an active weekend away, enjoying Manly’s fabulous restaurants, beaches, and amenities. Either way, you are never too far from the heart of Sydney.
All our Coastrek routes are meticulously selected to give you the most epic adventure, and this year we are picking the best of the best from our favourite Northern Beaches spots! Breathtaking views and natural landscapes are in, busy roads and concrete jungles are out!
We always put the coast in Coastrek, and our Sydney location delivers. The Northern Beaches route is a stunning stretch of coastline offering amazing views, picturesque rocky headlands and the golden sands of Sydney’s beaches.
In 2024, you'll be walking from Palm Beach (50km), taking in Barrenjoey Headland - Sydney’s northernmost seaside point - then following the coast through Newport, Narrabeen (30km start) and/or Long Reef (20km) to Balgowlah Heights, where you’ll see Sydney’s famous Harbour including views of North and South Head.
To access the Northern Beaches route map, download the route on your phone via Google Maps or the MAPS.ME app. Don't forget to update it just before Event Day to ensure you have the most up-to-date map. If you like it old school, we've got an epic hard copy map book that will include detailed track notes, elevation profiles and more!

Please note: All Coastrek routes are subject to change. We attempt, at all times, to adhere to the advised route. As we are immersed in nature, however, there may sometimes be circumstances beyond our control (tides, fallen trees/branches, other safety aspects as advised by local councils) that require us to slightly alter the route. In any such cases these will be clearly marked and identified on event day.
If there is a government directive that disrupts your proposed Coastrek route on Event Day, you will get to choose your own route, based on your local area, with all the support and assistance you need. We will give you some inspiration by suggesting routes we know and love in your area.
