Brisbane 2020 FAQS - COVID-19

09 Apr 2020

UPDATED 14.04.20 10.49 AM

In light of the government’s guidelines which advises against all non-essential activities and strongly encourages stringent social distancing measures to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, we have no alternative but to postpone Brisbane Coastrek to a new date later in 2020.

We had been holding out hope that we would still be able to go ahead with Brisbane Coastrek, which was set to be our biggest and best Queensland event yet! However, as we now hurtle towards May when your 12-week training program should be kicking off, we realise it’s time for us to make a decision, knowing there is still some uncertainty and change to expect in the next few months.

We know this will be disappointing for many of you. We are extremely disappointed too.

What does this mean for your registration?

All Coastrekkers who are registered for Brisbane Coastrek will have the option to:

a) Participate in the postponed Brisbane Coastrek 2020 event (date TBC)
b) Transfer your registration to another Coastrek event in 2021

No action is required right now, you do not need to decide immediately or let us know which option you prefer. Things are still changing and we are continuing to assess all of our plans in line with the latest advice from the State and Federal Government.

We will be in touch to communicate any changes to you, and as soon as it is safe to do so we can’t wait to see you all out walking for mental health. As a Coastrek community you are AMAZING.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHEN WILL THE NEW EVENT TAKE PLACE?

Given the uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 outbreak and social distancing restrictions, we will be waiting until we have more information before confirming a new date. We want to be able to give you full certainty that the event will go ahead on that date, and at this stage it’s not possible.

DO I NEED TO LET COASTREK KNOW MY PREFERRED OPTION?

No, not yet. As soon as we know more about new dates, we will contact you.

ARE THERE FEES INVOLVED WITH TRANSFERRING MY TEAM TO ANOTHER EVENT?

No – there are no fees to postpone or transfer to another Coastrek event in 2020 or 2021.

Note: You can postpone or transfer to an event of the same or lesser distance to the one you originally registered for.

WILL MY FUNDRAISING CARRY OVER TO THE NEW EVENT?

If you take part in the postponed Coastrek, your fundraising will roll over.

If you choose to defer your registration to another Coastrek event in 2021, your fundraising will not transfer over to the new event fundraising page online, but funds raised in this event will be taken into consideration.

Beyond Blue’s support service will be needed more than ever before, and we are so grateful for all our Coastrekkers continued support.

WHY CAN’T I GET A REFUND?

As per our T&C’s our registration fees are non-refundable, as many of the costs and fees are preparatory and have already been incurred from before you register to prior to the event actually commencing.

All trekkers can choose to join us for the postponed event (date TBC) or transfer to another Coastrek event in 2021.

SOME OF MY TEAM WANT TO DO THE NEW DATE, AND SOME WANT TO TRANSFER TO NEXT YEAR. CAN WE DO THIS?

As Coastrek is a team event, what you decide to do is based on a team decision - all team members must be in agreement. Team captains are able to replace team members, if some are unable to participate.

WILL MY FUNDRAISING BE REFUNDED?

Your fundraising will go directly to Beyond Blue to fund Beyond Blue’s 24/7 Support Service, which provides free, one-on-one support and information from a trained mental health professional.

WHAT IF THE NEW DATE DOESN’T SUIT MY TEAM?

If the postponed date does not suit you, you can choose to take part in any other Coastrek event in 2021. Team captains are able to replace team members, if some are unable to participate.

WHERE DOES OUR REGISTRATION FEE GO?

Registration fees for Coastrek go to Wild Women On Top to help cover the costs of your Coastrek journey, including training programs and support e-books, volunteer recruitment, stakeholder engagement, customer service, social media management and more, to ensure you have an awesome experience from registration through until event day.

Organising a large scale event like Coastrek is complex, and each event involves over 200 contractors and stakeholders to run.

There are many costs that are incurred prior to the event including: fees and applications to local councils and national parks, event insurance (which sadly does not cover pandemics), event logistics partners, staff, website and fundraising platforms, graphic design, route development and maps, bibs and timing, event infrastructure and management, signage, traffic management planning + more.

WHERE DOES OUR FUNDRAISING GO?

All funds raised through Coastrek go directly to Beyond Blue, to fund Beyond Blue’s 24/7 Support Service, which provides free, one-on-one support and information from a trained mental health professional.
