Margaret Sheridan

Margaret Sheridan was nearing 70 when she wondered if she might be “too old” for hiking, especially after having two artificial hips and wondering if her body could take it anymore. That all changed when her youngest son playfully challenged her: Why not give it a go? Now, at 79, Margaret has completed three full Coastrek events—and is still going strong!?

Her incredible journey didn’t stop at putting one foot in front of the other. Margaret and her three Coastrek teams have raised a spectacular $14,480 for charity, driven by her unwavering spirit and community support. But beyond the numbers and milestones lies a story of defying expectations.

Having once felt held back by her hips, Margaret embraced training like a true trekker, nurturing her strength, balance, and stamina. With each weekly walk and each training milestone, she proved that it's never too late to rewrite your own narrative. The camaraderie of her fellow hikers became an essential source of energy, pulling her through tougher stretches and fueling her confidence.

Today, Margaret isn’t just participating—she’s thriving. Completing Coastrek at 79 sent a powerful message: age is no barrier to discovery, ambition, or community. She’s become the toast of her hiking group, an inspiration to younger trekkers, and a living testament to the capacity of the human spirit. Every stride she takes shouts a bold reminder—that shifting from self-doubt to self-belief can happen at any age.

If Margaret’s story has taught us anything, it’s this: you don’t need to be “ready” or “young enough”—all you need is a decision to start. From “what if?” to “I did it,” Margaret Sheridan proves that with the right mindset, boots—and maybe a friendly dare—you can be 79 years young and just getting started.
