If you've ever crossed a Coastrek finish line, you've probably been met with cheers, high-fives, and a sea of smiling faces. This enthusiastic crew cheering you across the finish line aren't just our friendly Coastrek and Beyond Blue team members - they're also our incredible volunteers, and they're at the heart of everything we do.
Whether they're setting up checkpoints, guiding teams along the trail, or snapping celebratory photos at the finish line, Coastrek volunteers are united by one thing: a shared passion for giving back, supporting mental health and making Event Day magic.
"A colleague had done Coastrek before and when she explained that the event would be raising money for mental health support services, I was immediatley on board," says Grace.
Are Media encourages their team to use volunteer leave, and Coastrek offered the perfect opportunity to give back in a way that was active, meaningful and fun.
Coastrek Energy: Feel-Good Vibes All Around
There's a buzz that fills the air on Event Day - the kind that only comes when people unite for something bigger than themselves. There's a shared energy that's electric.
Many of our volunteers are friends or family of trekkers, other are locals or part of workplaces teams - all driven by the desire to give back. One thing they all agree on? It feels really good.
"The experience was really uplifting; the energy was extremely positive. I particularly enjoyed capturing photos of participants up on the photo wall. It felt good to celebrate others!"
Volunteering at the finish line photo wall gave Grace a front-row seat to some of the day's most heartwarming moments. She spent hours encouraging trekkers to soak up their success - and saw firsthand how meaningful it was for them to be recognised for their achievement.
"The energy, the shared passion for the cause and the keen trekkers made for a great day," she said. "It was better than I expected, and not just on account of my delicious lunch that was kindly comped by Coastrek (thank you very much!). The location was also spectacular."
Camraderie, Connection and a Little Bit of Chaos
One of the most joyful aspects of volunteering is the sense of camarderie. You're working alongside like-minded people, cheering for strangers who feel like friends by the end of the day.
"I chatted to fellow volunteers and trekkers who were all in good spirits and incredibly friendly," Grace shared.
Of course, no Coastrek event would be complete without a little honest feedback - and Grace had a suggestion to make next time even better.
"I think the trekkers would greatly appreciate a step up to the photo wall next year!"

"Absolutely!...although I'm not sure I'm up for 50km. Props to those hikers!"
