Sunshine Coast: Trek, Stay and Play!

13 May 2025

You’ve crossed the finish line and smashed your Coastrek goals - now it’s time to kick off those hiking boots and enjoy all that the Sunshine Coast has to offer.

Refuel in Style

The Sunshine Coast is a melting pot of international flavours to suit every palate.  Head to Rice Boi in Mooloolaba for Asian street food and grab a seat in the marina-side beer garden - the crispy skin barramundi laksa comes highly recommended. For European summer vibes, Pavilion Mooloolaba blends whitewashed walls and terracotta tiled interiors, and a modern share-style menu served by the waterfront or on the rooftop with sweeping views from Point Cartwright to Noosa. Nearby, WAT Den and Boston Shaker Bar mix up enticing cocktails worth lingering for.  Craving a taste of Italy by the sea?   In Maroochydore, head to Liliana’s Trattoria for homestyle Italian classics inspired by Nonna Liliana herself; while nearby,  SOKA wows with a Japanese–charcoal fusion.

Pamper Yourself – You’ve Earned It!

Treat your body (and your Coastrek-weary feet!) with a pamper session.  The Ikatan Balinese Day Spa is pure paradise tucked away in the Sunshine Coast hinterland offering traditional Balinese treatments and total relaxation amongst lush tropical gardens.  Or head seaside to Coolum, where Asante Day Spa offers a range of massage and beauty treatments in lavish Moroccan-inspired surrounds. Looking for a spot for your team to recover post-walk? Look no further than Tank Bathhouse & Day Spa, with six dreamy magnesium pools, a sauna, steam room, treatment packages and a luxe waterfront bar, you'll be feeling relaxed in no time.

Chase Waterfalls, Not Just Finish Lines

Your Coastrek finish line might be behind you, but the adventure’s just beginning. The Sunshine Coast is home to some truly jaw-dropping waterfalls. Don’t miss the 90-metre stunner in Kondalilla National Park, or hike into the hidden pools of Booloumba Creek Falls in Conondale National Park – a secret gem that rewards every step with crystal-clear freshwater.  Hiding amongst the strangler figs and native vines of Buderim Forest Park, Buderim Falls (also known as Serenity Falls) proves good things come in small waterfall packages. You’ll find this 45 hectare oasis, five minutes from the main strip of Buderim Village.

Beach Bliss – Soak It In

With 36 beaches located along the Sunshine Coast’s glorious 100km stretch, take your pick for a relaxed morning swim, a sunset stroll, or a full-on surf session. It’s easy to see why award-winning Mooloolaba beach is adored by travellers and locals alike, with its sweeping coastal views and multiple patrolled swimming spots across a 1km stretch. Want an even better view? Head up the boardwalk to HMAS Brisbane Lookout to spot the other visitors in town - whales that is! A meeting point of Maroochy River and Alexandra Headland the resulting calm waters at Cotton Tree beach are great for leisurely dips, stand-up paddle and kayaking.  And at the southern end of the coast in Caloundra, Kings Beach ocean pool perched out across the open water is a unique and scenic addition to the waterfront.

Sip and Savour - Wineries & Breweries Galore

Wine lovers, rejoice – the hinterland’s cool climate and volcanic soil make it a surprising hotspot for boutique wineries. Take a scenic drive to Flame Hill Vineyard or Settler’s Rise Winery in Montville for a glass with a view. More of a beer buff? You're in luck with the Sunshine Coast being the Craft Beer Capital of Australia. Head to Brouhaha Brewery in Maleny or Moffat Beach Brewing Co in Caloundra for top-tier craft brews. If you’re around for the Eumundi Markets (every Wednesday & Saturday 7.30am-2pm), include a stop at the Eumundi Brewery.
